Fluorapatite (Specimen #100209)
Fluorapatite (Specimen #100209)
Location: Miller Property, Sebastopol Township, Renfrew County Ontario, Canada
Size: 9.5 x 4 x 3.2 cm.
Description: A lustrous, reddish-greenish fluorapatite crystal. The crystal is doubly terminated and exhibits the classic ‘melted’ terminations that are unique to crystals from the Grenville vein dykes. The crystal is repaired and has two small contact points.
A cluster of calcite vein dykes are exposed on the Miller property and at the Smart Mine and Meany Mine. Specimens have been recovered here since the property was opened prior to 1880 and yielded a considerable quantity of phosphate. This location is a ‘pay’ site and has produced fine apatite and titanite crystals.
