Location: Tsumeb Mine (Ongopolo Mine), Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region, Namibia

Size: 5.9 x 4.2 x 2.5 cm

Provenance:  Tony Steede Collection

Description: From one of the world's most important localities for the species, this is a very classy azurite of the finest quality! A sharp, beautiful, lustrous and striated dark-blue azurite crystal aesthetically perched on smaller azurite, cerussite and malachite crystals. The sharply terminated undamaged azurite crystal measuring 1.7 cm in length is set perfectly upon matrix. The crystal is complete all around where not attached to the matrix. This is a great display case specimen.

The Tsumeb mine is a world-famous Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag-Ge-Cd mine, renowned for a wealth of rare and unusual minerals. On January 21, 1893, Mathew Rogers discovered the "green hill" and the site started operating in 1907 and closed in 1996 for economic reasons.
