Calcite (Specimen #300012)
Mineral(s): Calcite
Location: Road Cut, Trans Canada Highway, Municipality of Corner Brook, Newfoundland & Labrador
Size: 7.9 X 3.5 X 3.0 cm
Description: A fantastic, single, terminated ‘dogtooth’ calcite crystal from a unique Newfoundland location. The crystal is translucent to transparent in some areas of the crystal and some faces have a light red-tan coloured hematite (?) dusting. There are growth striations on one contact from an adjacent crystal. The crystal is undamaged and is one of several removed from a clay pocket that included a large single crystal (17.5 cm) that has been acquired by the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa. It is anticipated that there will be no further specimens from this locale.
