Mineral(s): Cerussite, Pyromorphite, Malachite
Location: Brown's Prospect, Rum Jungle, Batchelor, Coomalie Shire, Northern Territory, Australia
Size: 6.2 x 6.0 x 3.3 cm
Description: A fantastic specimen of mainly cerussite crystals with a sprinkling of orange-brown, botryoidal pyromorphite crystals on botryoidal green malachite. This is a specimen from the original workings at Browns Prospect in the 1970s. The 1970s specimens are characterized by abundant cerussite which is virtually absent from specimens collected more recently (2010). The combination of mineral crystals makes this specimen particularly interesting. The cerussite is sparkly and the specimen is in very good condition. A fascinating, and a hard-to-get specimen.
Browns Prospect is a stratabound base metal deposit containing Pb-Cu-Co-Ni-Zn located in the Rum Jungle Mineral Field approximately 100 km south of Darwin in the Northern Territory, Australia. Browns Deposit, historically known as Browns Prospect, has been a source of mineral specimens for the commercial market since 1969. The last small collecting project occurred in 2012 with limited specimens recovered. The working area is underwater and not likely to be re-worked in the future.
